About tonight’s Akron mayor’s debate
Debate detailsWhere: University of Akron’s Student Union, 302 Buchtel Common.When: Noon to 1 p.m. today. Check-in will begin at 11 a.m., with a luncheon at 11:30 a.m.Sponsors: Akron Press Club, UA’s Bliss Institute of Applied Politics and the League of Women Voters for the Akron Area.Tickets: Sold out. The reservation deadline was Friday.Parking: Free at UA’s Exchange Street deck.Moderator: M.L. Schultze, news director of WKSU (89.7-FM).Panelists: Steve Hoffman, editorial writer for the Akron Beacon Journal; Eric Mansfield, reporter for Channel 3; and Larry States, reporter for WAKR (1590-AM).Positions: A drawing held this morning will determine which candidate goes first, the order of the candidates at the podiums and who closes first.Format: Each candidate will have 90 seconds to answer a question and the other two candidates then will have 45 seconds each for rebuttals. No opening statements will be given, but each candidate will give two-minute closing remarks.If a candidate fails to show up: The two remaining candidates would be given more questions and more time to talk, with two minutes for initial answers, one minute for rebuttals and three minutes for closing statements.Campaigning: Will not be permitted in the debate room.
